CANINE GOOD CITIZEN TITLE
A Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a well-behaved dog who can demonstrate skills at home and in public, around people (including children) and other dogs. A CGC is a dog who is desirable to own or welcome as a neighbor and is not a nuisance to anyone.
The Canine Good Citizen test consists of 10 components and is held in a public space. The test demands that your dog proves the skills needed to act appropriately and controlled around humans and dogs. Just as importantly, the test evaluates how well You, as a dog owner, can control your dog and keep his/her attention on you when necessary. Throughout the test, praise from the handler is encouraged, however treats or food incentives are prohibited.
Contact today to learn more about the CGC Sessions. After a free consultation, the number of sessions needed in order to participate in the official test will be determined.
S.T.A.R. PUPPY TITLE
This is a sort of pre-Canine Good Citizen Title for puppies under 1 year of age. It is not necessary in order to obtain Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title. However, it is a great starting point for puppies, or those new to training, who need to get off to the right start in order to achieve a title with AKC. Without these skills as a foundation, Canine Good Citizen title will be more difficult, or take more time, to achieve.
The Program consists of 6 weekly sessions covering Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsible ownership. A combination of private and group sessions will be incorporated for maximum exposure.
The S.T.A.R. Puppy Title involves completing 20 test items involving both Owner and dog responsibility. Whereas CGC title is a set test, S.T.A.R. Puppy can be evaluated over the course of the 6 sessions and up until the last session.
